Research in order to develop and highlight important processes within the proposed Biosphere Reserve is an important goal since it can improve on-going activities. Our main objective is to initiate, to build networks and to facilitate research. We can also be included in research projects both actively or as observers, if desired, as we have research expertise within the staff of biosphere office.

Currently a research project is taking place with focus on the development process when establishing a biosphere reserve. Kristina Börebäck, from Stockholm University conducts this study  in two areas: Lake Vänern with Mount Kinnekulle and Eastern Slopes of Lake vättern, both biosphere candidates.

Nature Conservation as a Business Idea, is a research project that aims to study the communicative strategies that contribute to nature conservation as a business idea within agriculture. It also investigates what extension will be needed to promote growth in this sector. Vänerskärgården med Kinnekulle constitutes the case study area for the project. The project will result in tangible proposals for a positive development within this field. During spring 2010 a number of interviews and focus groups with stakeholders in the biosphere area were carried out. Working in the project are: Elvira Caselunghe Den här e-postadressen är skyddad från spamrobotar, du måste ha Javascript aktiverat för att visa den , Magnus Ljung Den här e-postadressen är skyddad från spamrobotar, du måste ha Javascript aktiverat för att visa den , Hanna Ljunggren Bergeå Den här e-postadressen är skyddad från spamrobotar, du måste ha Javascript aktiverat för att visa den and Helena Nordström Källström Den här e-postadressen är skyddad från spamrobotar, du måste ha Javascript aktiverat för att visa den - all coming from Division of Environmental Communication, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences www.sol.slu.se/mk

Lake Vänern with Mount Kinnekulle is also an area of a case study in the research area "Outdoor Life of Change": www.friluftsforskning.se

LTER-Europe is the Long-Term Ecological Research Network. The long-term mission of LTER-Europe is: *to track and understand the effects of global, regional and local changes on socio-ecological systems and their feedbacks to environment and society *to provide recommendations and support for solving current and future environmental problems. Sweden and Lake Vänern has now become a member of the network. Read more at the homepage of Lake Vänern museum.

The Biosphere Reserve has ambitions to seek funding for research when  necessary. The research reports will then be on this website for viewing and downloading.

You are welcome to discuss with Biosphere office about research ideas or other aspects of the education.
