Since the summer of 2009, the Biosphere office runs a project with the aim to develop Lake Vänern and Mount Kinnekulle to Sweden's first DESTINATION OF ECOTOURISM. The project includes: new hiking and biking trails, efforts to strengthen the cooperation between tourism and public transportation, enhancing the efforts of entrepreneurs with ecologic ambitions.
The project will continue until the end of June 2012 and it is implemented in collaboration with the Region of Västra Götaland, County Administration of Västra Götaland, Skaraborg Municipal Association, the National Road Administration, Regional Buss company Västtrafik, Municipality of Mariestad, Municipality of Lidköping, Municipality of Götene, Destination Läckö-Kinnekulle, Lake Vänern Museum and the European Union Regional Development Fund.
